Independent Primary School

The School That Follows the Child

Imagine a school where no two children’s days look exactly the same. Where the curriculum bends to fit the child — not the other way around. Where every little person who walks through the door is met with the message: you belong here, exactly as you are.

That is exactly what NEON Ireland is working to create.

For so many neurodivergent children and their families, the education system presents an exhausting and heartbreaking paradox. Mainstream school can be overwhelming, confusing, and at times deeply distressing for children whose brains are wired differently. Yet when families seek alternative provision, they are often told their child’s needs are not quite significant enough to qualify for a special needs classroom. Not struggling enough. Not fitting neatly enough into any one category. And so they fall through the gaps — bright, curious, wonderful children who simply need something different.

NEON Ireland’s independent school is being built for exactly those children.
Led by an occupational therapist and a Montessori-trained teacher, the school is rooted in two powerful ideas. The first is that regulation comes before everything else. Before learning, before achievement, before anything — a child needs to feel safe. When a child feels safe in their body and their environment, that is when the magic begins.

The second idea is beautifully simple: follow the child. Every pupil will have a curriculum designed around their own unique strengths, interests, sensory needs, and way of experiencing the world. No two journeys through this school will look the same, because no two children are the same.

This is not a one-size-fits-all place. It is a place where a child who learns best by moving is free to move. Where a child who needs quiet can find quiet. Where interests are nurtured, differences are celebrated, and every child gets to experience what it feels like to genuinely thrive.

The founders of NEON Ireland know this world intimately — professionally and personally. Between them, they bring decades of experience in occupational therapy, sensory integration, and Montessori education, as well as the lived experience of neurodivergent family life. They have seen the gaps in the system up close. They have felt the frustration of watching children go unsupported. And they have decided to do something about it.

The school they are creating will be more than a place of learning. It will be a community. A sanctuary. A place where neurodivergent children can grow into themselves without apology — surrounded by adults who truly understand them, and supported by a wider network of neuro-affirming professionals who believe, as NEON Ireland does, that every child deserves to be seen.
It is going to be a magical place. And it cannot come soon enough.

We are currently in talks to secure a location for our Independent primary school, but it will be based near Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.
